From April 13th to October 13th, 2025, OSAKA EXPO is taking the global stage in Yumeshima, Osaka, Japan. Held once every five years and sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), this World Expo spans 184 days and brings together nations, innovators, and visionaries to explore what it means to create a better, more sustainable future. With the main theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” the Expo is built around three powerful sub-themes Saving Lives; Empowering Lives; Connecting Lives.
Among the participating nations is Indonesia, with a pavilion themed “Thriving in Harmony: Nature, Culture, Future.” This vision is inspired by the Balinese philosophy Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between people, nature, and the Divine, as a pathway to a sustainable future. One of the centerpiece programs of the pavilion is its rolling exhibition, a rotating spotlight on outstanding local brands. Among the curated selections, Long Story Short proudly represents Indonesia alongside fellow brands Tiyasa and Indhe, showcasing its handmade rattan bags that embody the creativity, sustainability, and soul of Indonesian craftsmanship on a global stage. Long Story Short’s presence at the Indonesia Pavilion was made possible through a selective curation by Bank Indonesia, which recognized the brand’s strong commitment to heritage, craftsmanship, and global market readiness.
Long Story Short showcased a curated selection of its bag designs. Among the featured pieces were Sekar Lurik Jawa, a tribute to Javanese elegance and textile heritage; Wresti, a structured statement piece with intricate rattan weaving; Margie, known for its minimal yet graceful form; Puspa, a vibrant floral-inspired design that reflects Indonesia’s rich natural beauty; and Milla, a versatile everyday bag infused with cultural storytelling. By blending traditional Indonesian weaving techniques with modern silhouettes, Long Story Short’s exhibit stood as a clear reflection of how Indonesian fashion can be both globally relevant and deeply rooted in tradition.
The Indonesia Pavilion is more than a showcase, it’s an immersive experience and a living reflection of the nation’s spirit. Architecturally inspired by Indonesia’s proud maritime heritage, the Pavilion takes the form of a majestic ship, symbolizing the country’s enduring journey across time and oceans. Through its vibrant visual storytelling, curation of traditional arts, and forward-looking innovations, the Pavilion invites the world to experience how Indonesia is building a future where resilience, sustainability, and cultural depth coexist.
Long Story Short’s appearance at OSAKA EXPO 2025 affirms the role of creative small businesses in shaping future economies. It also reflects a larger movement, a rising global appreciation for heritage-based design, sustainable materials, and artisanal craftsmanship. As the world gathers in Osaka to co-create solutions and exchange ideas, Long Story Short stands proudly as a storyteller, carrying Indonesian values, community empowerment, and timeless tradition in every bag.
